As the Ukrainian power grid continues to face attacks, the need for backup electricity supplies remains critical. Over the winter, Enabel donated 35 diesel generators to 35 educational institutions across the Kyiv city: 25 schools, 9 kindergartens and 1 college. Most of the generators provided at the request of the Kyiv City State Administration have already been installed, ensuring that essential operations will continue uninterrupted during power outages.Enabel is committed to supporting the energy resilience of Ukraine's social infrastructure. More updates on the agency's energy projects, including the production of mobile and modular boilers, are coming shortly.
BE-Relieve Ukraine programme is working to restore and equip cluster hospitals in Ukraine, following Build Back Better principles: sustainability, inclusivity, and energy efficiency. One of the first facilities to be modernised with Enabel's support is the Pryluky Central City Hospital in the Chernihiv region. The institution serves 11 communities in the Pryluky district, reaching more than 150.000 residents. Enabel will finance the major renovation of two floors of the hospital's central building and the replacement of three elevators. More than 30 wards and 5 operating rooms will be renovated. The preparatory work has already begun. “This cooperation gives us a historic opportunity to restore the hospital during this challenging time for our country,” shares Ms. Yana Pohorila, the facility’s director. ”Together, we will create dignified conditions for patient care and medical staff operations.”
Leveraging Belgian expertisePiloting innovative rehabilitation solutions is one of the pillars of the BE-Relieve Ukraine programme. On February 27-28, 2025 Enabel partnered with Piet Stevens, founder of Ceriter, to conduct training sessions for the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital #8 and the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital of War Veterans. Ceriter is the Belgian start-up behind Stride One, smart insoles designed to improve gait rehabilitation for patients recovering from amputations, complex fractures, and cerebrovascular accidents, as well as people with chronic pain. The medical device, equipped with sensors, accurately measures foot-roll and other gait parameters, sending data to an app that generates feedback and recommendations based on collected data. Mr Stevens demonstrated how the insoles work on patients and donated one device to each hospital, encouraging the medics to share their feedback with Ceriter. “The number of physiotherapists in Ukraine is limited, and the number of amputees and other people who might benefit from our product is increasing due to the war. That is why for us at Cetirer it is important not only to support Ukraine morally but also to provide our technologies so that the patients can get a better chance at recovery”, commented the founder of Ceriter. “I have never worked with such devices before, so I am impressed and hope that these insoles will be useful for our patients with different pathologies”, shared Hanna Suska, an occupational therapist at the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital #8. Enabel remains dedicated to introducing Ukrainian medical facilities to cutting-edge medical technologies, with a particular emphasis on physical rehabilitation. Additional training sessions and workshops for local specialists are already in development.
Enabel supported the regional forum "Human Resource Provision for Business: Synergy of Education and the Labour Market", held on February 26, 2025 in Chernihiv, Ukraine. Enabel's support focuses on helping these institutions recover from the impacts of Russian aggression, build institutional resilience, and modernise educational programs by leveraging Belgian expertise.
Enabel has delivered the first batch of mobile generators on diesel fuel to the city of Chernihiv, Ukraine. This will help local public utility companies maintain an uninterrupted power supply during outages or disruptions to the national grid. Six generators were donated to Teplocomunenergo public utility company. The device with the highest capacity (280 KW) can power the heating substation that supplies heat to 15 residential buildings, two kindergartens, and five administrative facilities.Eight generators were provided to Cherhihivvodokanal to keep the largest potable water booster pumping stations up and running. Given Russia’s targeted attacks on energy production facilities, investing in decentralised backup energy production remains crucial to ensure continuous access to energy and heating. Enabel is already working on providing public facilities across the Chernihiv region with the second batch of generators.
