Palestinian heritage in the spotlight in Deir Istiya

  • Palestinian heritage in the spotlight in Deir Istiya

On the 25th of July, Deir Istiya organized a "Palestinian Customs Day" at the Abu Hijleh palace.

The Regeneration of Historic Centers in Local Government Units (RHC) project recently finished the rehabilitation of the Abd Al Rahim Abu Hijleh historic building in Deir Istiya. The aim of the RHC project is to bring life back to historic centers by focusing on their social, cultural and economic development. That's why the building will be used as a guesthouse and a cafeteria for Deir Istiya’s citizens and guests.

During the heritage day, visitors could join a walk from the Municipality Square to the Old City Square and discover the Abu Hijleh Exhibition where old photos and traditional costumes were showcased.
The evening ended with traditional Palestinian songs and Dabka dancing.

To encourage the younger generation to discover their heritage and traditional Palestinian skills, Enabel distributed embroidery kits amongst the participants.
