The lyceum named after Kostiantyn Svetenok in the Chernihiv region was damaged in the first weeks of the full-scale war: a missile’s rear part was found on the second floor. After the Chernihiv region’s liberation, the village council began to restore the facility with donors’ support. This spring, Enabel also joined the cause.
According to preliminary calculations, the thermal modernisation funded by Enabel should save the community 50% on heating costs. Kyinka Lyceum is the agency's first investment in energy efficiency in Ukraine: the project covers building insulation, a new roof, and a modern ventilation system installation.
Before the full-scale invasion, the lyceum had 405 students. Due to active hostilities in 2022 and ongoing drone attacks, this number has dropped to 383. The administration hopes that the school’s modernisation will encourage more families with children to return to the village.
”We want to create an environment where childhood would remain childhood no matter what”, shares Mrs Nina Sholokh, principal of the Kyinka Lyceum.
The project is set to be completed by September 2025.
