Strengthen climate resilience in Mozambique: Renewable energy for sustainable access to drinking water in the rural provinces of Gaza, Inhambane and Maputo

Project summary

The project proposes context-specific activities based on basic infrastructures needs, socio-economic conditions, and impact of present and future climate change risks on water resources and livelihoods.
Activities will include small-scale community-based water supply and renewable energy investments, management of water supply through private actors, development of saving-credit groups, community climate resilient income generating activities and livelihoods diversification, empowerment of women, climate knowledge and information.
Environmental and social screening considered health and safety, adverse impacts on beneficiaries and environment, protected sites, leakages and other potential negative impacts and no specific risks and impacts are identified. They are limited to the brine discharge from the desalination unit. The risk will be mitigate per mandatory actions for a safe disposal and reuse of brine from the supplier.
