Project summary

The Data Governance in Africa Initiative, funded by the European Union, is designed to support the emergence of a development-oriented and human-centric data economy and society in Africa. It is part of the broader strategic partnership between the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) on Digital Cooperation, and represents a key element of the Joint AU-EU Vision for sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Enabel’s Role in the Initiative
As part of this EU-funded initiative, Enabel’s Innovation Hub is implementing a Call for Proposals on data-driven digital social innovations. This call targets public institutions and not-for-profit organisations, including academia, civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, and social enterprises.
Its objective is to identify and support promising digital social innovations that leverage data to drive positive societal impact. Selected projects receive financial support and capacity building, enabling them to scale their impact and sustainability.
This effort is designed to strengthen national and regional digital and data ecosystems, with a focus on improving data-driven decision-making and policymaking, and fostering inclusive, locally grounded innovation.

One Call for Proposals and six projects supported
Under this EU-funded Call for Proposals, six projects have been selected. These projects exemplify the initiative’s commitment to using data responsibly and effectively to support inclusive and sustainable development across Africa.
