The SUSTOURISM project (Support to the Sustainable Tourism Value Chain) is implemented in Uganda. Its overall objective is to foster the growth of the nature-based tourism sector in Uganda in an inclusive and sustainable way, in line with the principles of the Forest Partnership.
The specific objectives (outcomes) of the project are to (1) Enhance Uganda’s visibility and attractiveness as a sustainable travel destination, (2) Increase the participation of local communities in tourism activities within natural landscapes, ensuring they benefit from both tourism and conservation efforts and, (3) Improve the business environment and provide support to companies operating along the tourism value chain, as well as to local communities, with a particular focus on micro and small enterprises owned and led by women entrepreneurs.
