EU CERC contributing to the Africa Circular
Economy Alliance (ACEA)
(during the ACEA Annual Meetings 2026 in Abidjan, 30
June – 2 July 2026)
In 2025, Enabel joined the Africa Circular Economy
Alliance Home | ACEA Africa as
Strategic Partner. Many African nations are regular members of ACEA, whilst
organisations like the UNDP, the Ellen McArthur Foundation and the Africa
Circular Economy Network are strategic partners.
For three days, we shared experiences, updated each
other and identified fields of action to further shape and promote circular
practices across Africa. We talked about Regulation, about Trade Promotion.
Different Entrepreneurs presented their businesses and we made a very inspiring
site visit to Akouédo, a former waste collection site, now being turned into a
green park for sports and energy generation. The theme of this year’s meetings
was “Scaling Africa CE transition: from policy to sector-wide action” to
point out that implementation is very important.
On the program was an Enabel/EUCERC run presentation
and panel session on "Financing CE scaleup in Africa: perspectives of
the finance ecosystem". Enabel first presented the main outcomes of a
Financial Mapping exercise which will be published shortly, pointing at the
potential for financiers and portraying the good work many financiers (banks,
fund managers, foundations) are doing already to implement more circularity. A
good panel with representatives from the European Commission, from the
Development Bank of Southern Africa and of the Government of Benin shared their
work to further promote circularity. It allowed for discussion of the needs and
even more the potential and the opportunities that a circular approach offers
to businesses and their financiers.
